The collective freedom of speech

Imagine if one day some leftwing government announced we as a people no longer had an individual right to freedom of speech. Imagine we now had to join an organization and choose someone who would speak on our behalf. Imagine this meant we no longer had blogs, forums, chat rooms, talk radio.... only officially approved 'representatives'.

Do liberal Republicans who love Obama get to 'represent' the conservative sector of America? Your voice now becomes meaningless, you as a person are a slave, an afterthought. You are meaningless, who is going to listen to us? Nobody, we won't be allowed to speak, we have to go to a meeting and vote and if we lose well, so what?

John Cougar Mellencamp thinks this is how things should be. Free speech?? Only for the collective! Its the most frightening thought I have heard in at least a month!
